Maine Interfaith Power & Light advocates that it is our moral duty to take action to counter climate change. All major religions have a mandate to care for the most vulnerable, many of whom are already suffering from the impacts of climate change around the world.
Science tells us that global warming pollution has the capacity to compromise the future of all living things. Future generations will suffer the consequences of our neglect if we fail to act now to protect them.
While making lifestyle changes that reduce emissions is important, it is not enough. Our concern about climate change must be felt and heard in Augusta and Washington D.C.
State and national energy policies should be based on sound science. The long-term need for clean air, environmental health, energy independence, and stable energy costs must receive priority instead of the short-term interests of the oil and coal industries.
